CarrierOK Reliability & Risk Factors Feature Highlight

What is the Reliability & Risk Factors Feature?

The Reliability & Risk Factors feature offers a detailed examination of a carrier's operational history and risk profile. By categorizing carriers into distinct risk levels, it quickly highlights potential issues and helps you prioritize your due diligence efforts.

Key Elements of the Reliability & Risk Factors Feature:

  1. Risk Categorization

  2. Operational Metrics

  3. Analytical Insights

Let’s dive into each of these elements in detail:

1. Risk Categorization

CarrierOK’s Risk Factors assessment categorizes carriers into four distinct risk levels: 'Low', 'Average', 'Medium', and 'High' Risk.

These classifications, summarized in the Top Card of each company profile, are derived from a comprehensive evaluation of a carrier’s operational history and behavior patterns. This system helps you gauge partner reliability and identify potential risks effectively.

Risk Levels Defined:

  • Low Risk: Carriers with a stable operational history and no significant irregularities or suspicious activities.

  • Average Risk: Carriers with minor inconsistencies in their business practices or reporting, yet generally maintain standard operations.

  • Medium Risk: Carriers showing patterns such as frequent authority changes, contact information updates, or irregularities in reported information, indicating potentially risky behavior.

  • High Risk: Carriers with significant irregularities or history of engaging in fraudulent activities, including frequent and unusual changes to critical information, connections to known fraudulent entities, or highly atypical operational patterns.

Using Risk Categorization:

  • Low Risk: Typically safe to proceed with some additional checks.

  • Average Risk: May require some additional scrutiny to ensure reliability.

  • Medium Risk: Necessary to conduct thorough due diligence before proceeding.

  • High Risk: Strongly consider disqualification due to high potential risks.

2. Operational Metrics

The Reliability & Risk Factors feature delves into various operational metrics, providing a comprehensive view of a carrier’s performance and reliability.

Key Metrics Explained:

  • Authority Status: Tracks duration and changes in FMCSA authority to identify regulatory issues or instability, offering insights into compliance.

  • Inspection Patterns: Analyzes inspection data relative to reported information and fleet size to detect safety compliance deviations or irregularities.

  • Operational Profiles: Evaluates the consistency between reported and actual operational data to ensure accuracy and reliability.

  • Hidden Relationships: Identifies undisclosed relationships between companies, highlighting potentially fraudulent networks and reputation risks.

  • Equipment Insights: Provides details on equipment types and usage, revealing operational capabilities and potential equipment sharing.

  • Industry Benchmarks: Compares companies against industry standards to identify outliers and verify data accuracy.

  • Business Stability: Assesses long-term viability through historical data and current metrics, evaluating operational dependability.

3. Analytical Insights

CarrierOK delivers a detailed analysis of each key metric, empowering you to make informed decisions about your freight partners. Our system scans millions of profiles daily, detecting irregularities and benchmarking each company against industry standards and trends. This process ensures you always have the most current and relevant insights.

We gather insights from brokerages, dispatchers, factoring companies, and carriers—ranging from large enterprises to small operations. These industry experts, committed to combating freight fraud, have shared their tried-and-true vetting methods and investigative techniques. Using advanced data science, we rigorously test these methods against known fraud cases and reputable companies to assess their effectiveness in predicting fraudulent activity.

We’ve automated these techniques into our analysis, encompassing over 45 critical factors. These include indicators like shared contact information with known fraudulent entities, frequent contact changes, or repeated authority revocations. The result is the Reliability & Risk Factors feature, which provides precise and actionable insights, drastically reducing the manual effort required for thorough vetting.

Additionally, we continuously monitor company authority and insurance status, publishing updates daily. We maintain up to 20 years of authority and insurance history for every company, offering a level of detail that even surpasses FMCSA records. This extensive historical data enriches our analysis, giving you a comprehensive view of each carrier’s reliability and compliance.

Examples of Analytical Insights:

  • Authority Status: Frequent changes in authority may indicate attempts to evade regulatory scrutiny.

  • Inspection Patterns: A high inspection frequency relative to fleet size could point to underlying safety issues.

  • Hidden Relationships: Identifying connections to known fraudulent entities helps you avoid high-risk partnerships.
